Gert Schuitemaker

Dr Gert Schuitemaker is a (non-practising) pharmacist and Doctor of Medicine. His doctoral thesis was based on a population screening programme that examined the risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Since 1980 he has above all been involved in orthomolecular medicine, as defined by two-times Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling in the magazine Science (1968; 160:265-271).

Schuitemaker is the author of numerous books and editor-in-chief of the special journal ORTHOmoleculair Magazine and of the consumer magazine Fit met Voeding. He is chairman of the Ortho Institute Foundation, which has set itself the goal of disseminating information about nutrition and health. He is director of Ortho Communications & Science BV, an organisation that publishes magazines and books, and organises study courses, conferences and workshops.

On the Internet, he maintains an informative website, including the digital ORTHO library.Schuitemaker writes several columns, and is a regular guest and speaker in various media. He is a founder and former president of the Maatschappij ter Bevordering van de Orthomoleculaire Geneeskunde (MBOG - Society for the Promotion of Orthomolecular Medicine) and former president of the International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine (ISOM). In May 2011 he was inducted in the ISOM Hall of Fame.
